   Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station

   Institutional Compound

Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station puts an enormous Antarctic distance between twenty survivors and population centres. Its elevated living space, kitchens, medical facilities and utility plant are substantial, but the heat, electricity and melted-ice water systems require fuel, maintenance and specialist operation.

   McMurdo Station

   Fortified Structure

McMurdo Station puts Antarctic distance between survivors and major population centres, with dormitories, workshops and water production already in place. The challenge is keeping that refuge running when the supply ships stop.

   Heligoland

   Isolated Landmass

Heligoland combines North Sea separation with an established island community and seawater-derived drinking water. Its refuge value depends on keeping technical utilities running; plentiful buildings and surrounding sea do not provide independent food, fuel or fresh water.
